Bitcoin

Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency created in 2009 by an anonymous entity known as Satoshi Nakamoto. It operates on a peer-to-peer network, allowing users to transact directly without intermediaries like banks. Transactions are verified by network nodes through cryptography and recorded on a public ledger known as the blockchain. Bitcoin is characterized by its limited supply, capped at 21 million coins, which helps to create scarcity. It enables users to send and receive funds globally with low fees and is often referred to as a form of “digital gold” due to its value retention properties. Bitcoin is the first and most well-known cryptocurrency, influencing the development of thousands of alternative cryptocurrencies. Its underlying technology, blockchain, has applications beyond currency, including in finance, supply chain, and various other fields.
